Berkshire Bash - Hot Summer Swing With Squirrel Nut Zippers

Sat, August 26, Ski Butternut Also featuring bands The Lucky 5 and Blue Light Trio

“This band is absolute energy with as much animation as a 30's cartoon and as crazy wild as a drunk squirrel. This band of high level New Orleans style jazz musicians put as much energy into entertaining as they do playing their respective instruments... and that is a bunch!” Bmans Blues Report.com

Squirrel Nut Zippers' music is a high-energy fusion of Delta blues, gypsy jazz, 1930s–era swing, klezmer and other styles. The Zippers, are from Chapel Hill, and their one-of-a-kind sound incorporates Harlem Hot Music, to the sounds of musicians Cab Calloway, Fats Waller, Django Reinhardt, and Tom Waits. Favorite albums are Perennial Favorites, Christmas Caravan, and Bedlam Ballroom . The band's break-through single "Hell" was distinguished by calypso rhythms, and pushed the band into further association with the "Neo Swing" movement. In 1997, the band toured with Neil Young. They performed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, on Prairie Home Companion, at President Clinton's second inaugural ball, on Comedy Central and on television shows including The Tonight Show, Late Show with David Letterman, Conan O'Brien and Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve.
